The Town Hall is owned and maintained by Moray Council.
A Town Hall Committee was formed by some of the local residents and businesses to work with Moray Council their objective was to lease the Town Hall from the Council. According to Committee records a Draft Lease was provided by the Council in July 2005. A grant of £23,500 would be given, provided it was used to enhance/upgrade the Town Hall to meet the requirements of the community and ensure its suitability for the purpose for which it has been let. Another condition of the grant was the Committee had to achieve charitable status, through the determination and perseverance of the Chairwoman (Heather from the Ice Cream Shop) they are now a registered Scottish Charity - SC037729 - and welcome any donations that would allow them to continue their good work.
Unfortunately the Lease will not be able to be concluded for some time. The Council has been reviewing its facilities in the Cullen area and it transpires that the condition of the Town Hall has deteriorated and will require more repair and maintenance work than was originally anticipated.
The objectives of the Committee are to organise/promote events and services that benefit the people of Cullen and visitors to the area, and where possible to provide facilities, or assist in the provision of facilities, in the interest of social welfare for recreation and other leisure-time activities.
The Town Hall formed centre-stage in the planning of the new town of Cullen in the 1820’s as a place from where the business of the town could be conducted, and where the people of the Town could meet for a multitude of events be they cultural, social or educational. This Grade-A listed building remains at the heart of the Town and continues to serve well the community.
